Fluency Reading

 

Fluency reading motivates the reader build accuracy in reading orally. It is a way of expression throughout the text while reading aloud. Fluency readers are readers who enjoy reading.  They are to read a novel with expression either aloud or independently, but most of all they do it out of enjoyment.

Ways to Increase Reading Fluency

1. The reader can re-read the text aloud several times.  This can help the reader gain confidence in reading aloud to others.  It will also help the reader have a better understanding of the text.
2. The reader can re-read the text independently. This can help the reader re-read the text by themselves and gain more confidence in their speed reading, or understanding of the text.
3. Reading a text aloud with a peer.
4. Reading a challenging text independently.
5. Promote phrased reading in the classroom.
6. Have the reader explore poetry books.
